Stuff I Love

Great Writing

Don't you love writers who create a fresh spin on familiar archetypes? Kathy McCullough, Don't Expect Magic; Carolyn Turgeon, Godmother.

I love writers whose writing is so spare and beautiful, that every word counts. Lisa Ann Sandell, Song of the Sparrow; Jandy Nelson, The Sky is Everywhere; Ellen Hopkins, impulse.

Do you adore discovering intriguing worlds that an author sustains over a book series? Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games; J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter; Holly Black, A Modern Tale of Faerie series. Veronica Roth's Divergent series. And I love Gail Carriger's steampunk, alternate universes in her Parasol Protectorate, Finishing School, Custard Protocol series.

Fun Television
I am totally hooked on Once Upon A Time, Elementary, and Downton Abbey. I watch The Voice even though I am tone deaf. I hate to mention shows I like, because that seems to be the kiss of death. My cancelled faves? Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, the Carrie Diaries, and the gritty Breaking Bad and Nikita. Sigh.

What I do when I have writer's block:
1. Emails, Facebook, and Pinterest

2. Walk my dogs, Miss Gracie and Avalon
3.  Vacuum or fold laundry
4. Try to learn iMovies
5.  Repeat the above steps. If they fail...
5.  Make brownies.
